Febiofest, Prague's film festival, starts on Thursday 22 March 2007 with the projection of Danish film Fakiren fra Bilbao at 8.30am, a projection held for juniors. The festival, the biggest one that takes place in Prague will lasts until Friday 30 March 2007.
The official opening ceremony will then be started on the same day at 7pm with awards of Jan Jireš.
The festival now enters in the 14th year of its existence. for the whole time, the festival is a "child" of director Fero Fenič. More than 270 film shows from over 60 countries will be projected within 9 festival days.
Febiofest will present films by world celebrities such as Sofia Coppola (Marie Antoinette), Lars von Trier, Robert de Niro (The Good Shepherd) of Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett drama Notes on a Scanda.
Many film celebrities comes directly to Prague, for example Polish actor Daniel Olbrychski or French director Bruno Dumont or Rona Hartner.
Most of the projections are is held in Village Cinemas Anděl multiplex, near the metro Anděl on the B (yellow) line. The special sections include Latin America panorama or Asian panorama, it also covers contemporary Hungarian film and special sections also counts with The World of Islam or New Israeli Film. One cinema hall will be dedicated to Gay & Lesbian Cinema.
What is appreciated on the festival is the price for tickets. Each film cost only 79 CZK (around 2,5 EUR), which is less than half of the standard ticket price.
The tickets for movies are already in pre-sale from 15 March. The organizers has already announced that in first four days, almost 20 thousand tickets have been booked and sold. So, it could be hard to get ticket for movie now. Check the programme festival at the official website.
After nine days in Prague, festival is held in further 10 Czech cities.
