26 Jan 2007 Serbian Trumpeter Boban Markovic Returns To Prague

22 January 2007, 15:49 - Music
Insight into the Balkan music can be felt on your own in alternative club Palác Akropolis located near the Prague-Zizkov TV tower this Friday 27 January. Serbian trumpet player and folk ensemble leader, Boban Marković returns to Prague with his son and orchestra - under the name Boban i Marko Marković Orkestar.

Marković is considered to be the greatest trumpet player to emerge from the Balkans. He and his brass band are the leading brass band in Serbia over the last 17 years.

With his mix of archaic jazz and light, sweet brass and inspired by the traditional gypsy music, Boban has reinvented the traditional Balkan sound, incorporating a range of international influences.

The band is featured - for example - on two tracks on "Srbija: Sounds Global", a series of compilations released in 2000 by Radio B92, and on the opening track of "Srbija: Sounds Global 2", which was released November 2002 by B92, but attracted world audience when they contributed into two films by Emir Kusturica: (Arizona Dream and Underground).
