One of the greatest Turkish wonders – Whirling Dervishes of Rumi - could be seen in Prague's Municipal House on Monday 26 March 2007 from 7.30pm. The ensamble will perform ritual and spiritual dance show under the name "Dance of Love".
Quick moves with spiritual music can evoke episodes from the Stories of a thousand and one night. Seven-hundred-years-old ritual got a professional art shape with beautiful costumes, live music with strings, flutes and drums.
Dervish "dance" is a mystical journey of human spiritual ascent through mind and love. The dance with changing between quick and slow moves is also known as Sema and consist of 7 parts. The whirling consist of four salutes, in which derwishes testify by his appearance to God's unity.
This years has been also declared "A year of Rumi" by UNESCO (just to commemorate a 800th anniversary of Rumi's birth. Rumi (also known as Melvana), born on 30 September 1207 in now Turkish Konya, was a philosopher and mystic of Islam. His doctrine, however, advocates unlimited tolerance, goodness and charity.
The show is organized by Czech nonprofit organization Mozaika Platform Dialog. the show takes place in Prague after successful shows in New York, Chicago, London, Vienna and other cities.
