9 Mar To 3 Apr 2007 Opera Festival In Prague

8 March 2007, 16:23 - Music
Largest opera festival called simply Opera 2007 starts tomorrow on Prague’s National theatre scene. From 7pm, you can see the inscenation of Samson and Dalila by Camilla Saint-Saense.

Opera is the largest festival in the Czech Republic - the only show presenting the best productions of all national opera ensembles. However, compared to, for example film festivals it looks quite small. The festival is held every other year since 1993.

Goal of the festival is to show the qualities of the Czech opera soloist and choirs and other ensembles. Initially the festival was created to promote larger attention to Czech opera.

Until 3 April you can see several shows of famous opera by Czech and foreign composers performed by Czech theatre ensembles. Giuseppe Verdi will the most performed, with his Rigoletto, Attila and Mackbeth on the list. Others include Bohuslav Martinů’s The Miracles of Mary or Greek Passion, Weinberger’s Svanda the Bagpiper or Candide by Leonard Bernstein.

Check the programme for the full list. For opera lovers, festival, that cannot be missed. And also sign that the famous Prague Spring festival is quickly approaching (strats on 12 May 2007).
