First Brazilian tapir ever borned in Prague ZOO, saw the world for the first time on Sunday 11 June 2006. His mother is Ivana (six years old) and father Christian (Three years old) from ZOO in Nurnberg, Germany.

Ivana takes care properly after the small tapir who has no name yet. After the birth he had 8,3 kg, but he drinks the water (everybody should do so, because of hot weather in Prague this week) so much, so his weight is now 9,4 kg, said Vít Kahle, spokesman of the Prague ZOO.

The weight of adult animal is around 200 kg. This mammal lives in tropical rain forests in South America, to the east from Andes.

In the ZOO, you can find him in the pavilon of great mammals in Prague ZOO.

The ZOO was opened on 28th September 1931 for the public and in the sunny afternoon the first visitors entered the gate. The ZOO has been hardly hit by April 2002 flood while almost half of the area was affected.
