Královský Pivovar Krušovice (the Royal Brewery of Krušovice), one of the oldest breweries in the Czech Republic, won a prize in prestigious World Beer Cup in the USA. Its light lager, Imperial, got the gold medal in the Bohemian-Style Pilsener Category among 39 entries.

Second position in the same category goes to CZECHVAR - Premium Czech Lager, that is brewed in Budějovický Budvar n.p. Bronze medal goes to German beer Pils from Alpirsbacher Klosterbrauerei brewery.

World Beer Cup is organized by the non-governmental Association of Brewers every second year from 1996. This year the competition took place in Seattle. More than five hundred brewers from 56 countries participated in the event. The jury had to judge among 2221 different beers in 85 categories.

Imperial beer, the winner, light lager beer that belongs to Krušovice Premium group is brewed following a classical technology process. It has a slight gold colour, a deliciously bitter taste with excellent foam. Pleasant and significant sharpness is another of its qualities.

Royal Brewery of Krušovice was established in 1517 when the St. Vitus Contract enabled the aristocracy to brew beer on their own farms.

After seventy years, the brewery was sold to Emperor Rudolf II. He grew fond of the Krušovice beer, taking a personal interest to ensure that the brewery had a sufficient supply of quality raw materials and that production continually increased. From that time, the Krušovice Farm changed owners several times. Last of them, Furnstenberk Family, who owned it until 1945 equipped the brewery with the most modern facilities available.

After them, the Krušovice Brewery became part of many state-owned companies until 1991. The brewery was fully privatised in 1993, part of an alliance with the multinational financial and industrial company Dr. Oetker. The brewery underwent major reconstruction of all parts of machinery and equipment. The Královský Krušovice Brewery is presently among 5 biggest producers of beer in the Czech Republic.

Budějovický Budvar with brewery located in the South Bohemian metropolis České Budějovice is probably most famous Czech brewery. Its light lager Budweiser Budvar is exported to the USA under the name of Czechvar Premium Czech Lager. The change of the name on several world markets is necessary due to legal disputes over the trademark that Budweiser Budvar holds with the American company Anheuser-Busch.
