The government of Mr Topolanek (a centre-right government) appointed last week by Czech President Vaclav Klaus on the Prague Castle gained a vote of confidence before the Chamber of Deputies. 100 deputies were in favour of the government while 97 deputies voted against.

The vote of confidence is not secret - each deputy stands up and says either: "pro vladu" (for the government) or "proti vlade" (against the government). While all coalition deputies voted for the government, two deputies from the opposition Social democrats abstained and let the cabinet pass. One deputy from the opposition used incorrect formulation - his vote was not therefore counted.

Czech president is now doubting about the stability of the government. He said that the government will not be able to pass important laws through the Parliament and that the government is paving the way to the by-election within a few month.
