Euro Adoption In 2010 Unlikely

19 September 2006, 16:39 - Politics
The Czech Republic looks highly unlikely to adopt the euro in 2010. This was the aim of the previous Czech government led by Social Democrat Jiri Paroubek.

Governor of Czech National Bank Zdenek Tuma and new rightist Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek made this statement on their common press conference in Prague earlier today.

»The outlook for euro adoption in 2010 does not look realistic,« Tuma said on the press conference. The reasons are slow progress in the area of public finance reform and of the labour market, together with high public budget caused by mandatory expenses.
