Female Prince In Prague

5 November 2006, 21:33 - Music
Meshell Ndegeocello, American singer, rapper, bassist, and multi-instrumentalist, comes to Prague. She will perform a concert at Lucerna Music Bar tomorrow - Monday 6 November. The show is as part of the AghaRTA Prague Jazz Festival.

The artist, sometimes called as "female Prince", was born as Michelle Lynn Johnson on 29 August 1968 in Berlin, Germany. Her father Jacques Johnson was Army lieutenant (and saxophonist).

Ndegeocello participated in various projects, in which she usually played bass with the likes of The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Prince, Alanis Morissette, Sarah McLachlan and Lenny Kravitz. However she unsuccessfully tried out for the bassist position vacated in 1992 by Muzz Skillings of the hard rock band Living Colour.

During her carrier she has had numerous name changes. For example, in the late 1990s, she was known as Bashir Shakur.
