An important global conference of ideas and initiatives - Forum 2000 - has just started in Czech capital, Prague with the openning ceremony. The conference began on October 8, 7pm and closes on October 10.
The 10th Forum 2000 conference, founded by and held under the auspices of former President Vaclav Havel, will discuss the global mosaic of heterogenous cultures, ideologies and religions and will be attended by about 40 renowned world personalities. Most of them are returning to Prague. For example, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, the Dalai Lama will visit the Czech Republic for the sixth time.
Apart from the Dalai Lama, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Elie Wiessel, Belarussian opposition leader Alyaksandar Milinkevich, American scholar Samuel Huntington, Jordanian Prince Hassan bin Al Talal and former Irish President Mary Robinson are also expected.
Participants also can look forward to former United Nations Secretary General Butrus Butrus-Ghali, former Polish Foreign Minister Bronislaw Geremek, former Chilean President Chile Ricardo Lagos or French philosopher André Glucksmann.
The conference will also mark Havel's 70th birthday. According to last year's assessment by the British journal Prospect and the magazine American Foreign Policy, Havel is considered the fourth most influential intellectual in the world.
