Czech Republic is not only its capital. Leave Prague behind and go to the country for a day. Perfect opportunity is to visit one-day city fair in the town of Úštěk, located in the picturesque landscape of Northern Bohemia, some 80 kilometers from Prague on Highway D8.
All day programme of traditional annual fair starts at 9 am on Saturday August 12, 2006 and it includes shows of magicians, tumbler, jugglers, musicians, dancers, fencers, prophetesses, and so on. You can look insight the history with Magister Kelly or you can enjoy chamber orchestra in the Church of St. Peter and Paul. There will be 13 stages and more than 160 artist and craftsmen.
Also the walk through the small town, inlcuded in the Czech list of preserved areas, built at the foothills of sandstone walls in the eastern part of České Středohoří, worth visiting. The town itself has been also immortalized in many successful films. A number of film heroes were inhabitants of the town in their imaginary film lives, for instance the grandmother in the Oscar award winning film »Kolja«, filmed in the middle 90s.
The town of Úštěk has a population of around 1 600 persons.
How to get there from Prague
Take Highway D8 (direction Teplice, Ústí nad Labem), leave it on Exit 29 to Roudnice nad Labem, then on roads 240 and 260 to Úštěk (see mapy.seznam.cz)
