Just several days before the election, controversial Czech businessman Antonin Charouz announced his intensiond to build a motorracing circuit capable of hosting Formula One races on a brown-field site in Prague 10 (east from the city centre), Wednesday's Lidove noviny newspaper reported.
The plan involves completing the 750-million euro circuit by 2010. German architect Hermann Tilke, who was involved in the conception of the F1 tracks in Shanghai and Bahrain, has put forward the design for the circuit.
The privately-financed project also envisages a hotel with an ice rink.
Prague's mayor Pavel Bem described the plan as "relatively realistic".
The city-hall opposition considers the plan as a waste of money, and they say the proposed track will not have all reqiurements for the F1 race tracks.
