Hélder Ornelas from Portugal won the Prague International Marathon in 2 hours, 11 minutes, 49 seconds. He is the first European runner who won the event, that took place in Czech capital for 13th time this Sunday.
The 33-year-old Portuguese took the lead in the final kilometers of the race, beating second-place Luka Kipkemboi Chelimo of Kenya who finished in 2:12:36. Further Portuguese, Paulo Caetano Gomes, was third with 2:12:51.
"It was a difficult race, the weather was very hot," Ornelas said. The organizers prepared new route, that was set to beat the PIM's record. However, due to the hot weather and strong and bright sun shine, and strong wind on the Vltava river bank, the time was not beaten.
