Prague Mayor Climbed Mount Everest

Prague Mayor Pavel Bém climbed the highest mountain Mount Everest this morning. He completed the ascent at 06:42 CEM, his spokeswoman said.

Bem is the tenth Czech who has climbed to the summit of Mount Everest, following first Czech woman who has climbed the top of the mountain earlier this week.

As the trip called for a two-month absence in office, Bém was criticised by some public political figures, including Czech President Václav Klaus.

There was also the question of whether a mayor can go on an unpaid leave. The Prague town hall said he could, while the Interior Ministry holds the opposite view. Some councillors now strongly critisized Bém's "holiday".
