The greatest event of musical Prague Prague Spring 2007 has started today with the traditional performance of Bedrich Smetana's cycle of symphonic poems "My Country" in Prague Municipal House. The opening concert of the festival, which remains the same for decades, was also attended by Czech president Vaclav Klaus.

The Czech Philharmonic Orchestra that was conducted by Zdenek Macal, performed in front of the full Smetana's Hall in the Municipal House. The 62nd Prague Spring offers in the course of 28 days a total of 46 concerts and nine theatre performances, as well as seven concerts as part of the competition, that will be presented at seventeen venues in Prague and one venue outside the city.

The festival programme not attractive only for lovers of classical music. People could find there, for example, evening with jazz music, the concert of film music or screening of the silent film Faust with live music.

Among the greatest stars of the three-week festival are SAN FRANCISCO SYMPHONY with conductor Michael Tilson Thomas returning to Prague after four years, Georgian violinist Lisa Batiashvili, pianist Murray Perahia or trumpetist Alison Balstom.

Smetana's My Country is performed also on Sunday 13 May. The concert is sold out, but you can al least see the opening concert on Czech TV CT2 - on Sunday from 9:05pm.
