Quite Hot Weather Leads To Canceling Ski Jump Races

2 December 2006, 18:00 - Sport
The World Cup Ski jumping races in Harrachov, located in northern Czech Rep., have been canceled due to warm weather and lack of snow, International Ski Federation announced on Friday.

Really, there is no snow nowhere in the Czech Republic which is not common for the beginning of the December in the country. For example, in 2005, first people could enjoy skiing in Czech mountains in the middle of November.

Actually, the temperature is above zero even in the mountains, so it is not possible to use the artificial snow. But the weather is quite good for those who arrive to Prague for Christmas markets, that started on the Old Town Square in central Prague on Saturday at 6pm.

Back to the skiing: The loss of the two large hills at World Cup champion Jakub Janda's home-race is just the latest blow to a World Cup circuit that has suffered from poor weather conditions across Europe.

For example, the opening race in Kuusamo, Finland saw the second of two large hills cancelled due to high winds, while this weekend's races in Lillehammer, Norway replaced events originally planned for Trondheim.
