Topolanek In Topolanek Out

8 November 2006, 20:33 - Politics
Outgoing Prime Minister Mirek Toplanek - after his goverment failed to get approval in the Parliament - was appointed again to the same post by Czech President Vaclav Klaus on Wednesday.

This comes after series of unsuccessful attempt to solve the situation after

inconclusive June election that left parliament deadlocked. Both right and left hold 100 seats each, and a grand coalition of the two largest parties that would have the majority is not possible due to the personal intolerance between the two rivals.

For the first time, Topolanek was appointed in August. However, after weeks of negotiating with other parties in parliament, he ended up trying to go it alone with a minority government comprised solely of his Civic Democrat party (and some non-partisans).

The rightist government failed to win a confidence vote and resigned in October. It has been ruling as a caretaker administration since. But the government made several important decisions anyway.

We will inform you about the steps taken by Topolanek. Stay tuned.
