Turnover Of 100 Best Czech Companies Got Over 2 000 Billions Czk In 2005

18 Jun 2006, 18:06 - Business
Czech Top 100 which put together hundred most important companies announced on Thursday that these companies altogether reached the amount of 2 061 billions CZK (approx. 71 billions EUR) total sales during the 2005. This is nine per cent increase when compared with 2004.

No suprise when we look at the final ranking. There is no change in first three companies. The turnover of the leading Škoda Auto (Octavia car is world known) increased to 187 billions CZK (increase of 14 per cent). Most of that is because the rise in exports. Top 10 companies are listed below the article.

The dominant car industry is sometimes criticised from economists. The economy is growing, but it needs higher number of innovations and a better coordination of research and development. The funding of these activities is quite bad. If we take GDP per capita, they do not get even a half of the funding common in western Europe, USA and Japan. Substantial increase in the money inflows into the R&D would help to turn the economy from the mostly industrial based into the real knowledge based economy.

The announcement of the Czech Top 100 came just a few after Czech statistical office published the record growth in GDP. It was 7,4 % for the first three months of this year (compared with 1 quarter in 2005).
