Trips outside Prague to Czech countryside

The Czech Republic is a small country in Central Europe, landlocked among Germany on the west, Poland on the north, Slovakia on the east and Austria on the south. Czech Rep. is the succession state of the former Czechoslovakia. Czech and Slovak Republic dissolved at the end of 1992, after 74 years of the common state (with small break during the World War II).

The country has enormous cultural heritage, most of it vastly ignored by foreign tourists. With growing numbers of people coming to Prague, the number of visitors to other Czech cities and destinations remains stable. And Czech country has many to offer. From pitoresque cities, medieval strongholds or spectacular castle to almost untouched natural beauties.

Luckily most of the historical monuments managed to survive 40 years of negligence under the communist regime. In many cases it was even for their good not to be affected by the 1970' and 1980' "care".

The country consists of three historical lands – Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia

Here are some suggestions for trips to Czech country side:

Two important medieval castles are just outside Prague, Karlštejn Castle and Konopiště Castle. Both castles look like as if they been taken from a fairy-tale.

Český Krumlov, Karlovy Vary and Kutná Hora are amont three most visited cities in Czech Republic (except Prague, of course). The first mentioned is a medieval town in South Bohemia with a Castle over the river Vltava. Karlovy Vary is the town with numerous spas in northwest Bohemia and the later is Middle Bohemia twon with marvelous church of St Barbara.

If wish to go to see natural beauties in the Czech Republic, choose for example the highest mountains in the country Krkonoše mountains (Giant mountains), Český Ráj (Bohemian Paradise) with beautiful natural landscape sceneries or Czech-Saxon Switzerland with its pitoresque place of sandrocks above the Elbe canyon.

There is more to see in Czech Republic, you can make a trip, for example to Telč, Třebíč, beer town of Plzeň (Pilsen) or spa town near Prague Poděbrady.
